Hypnotherapy FAQ
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis, or trance, is a relaxed, focused, pleasant state of mind similar to daydreaming. It is an entirely natural state that one can enter or leave at will.
Most people would have experienced the effects of trance when driving for any length and not remembering part of the journey, or even just getting “lost” in a good book.
Both amnesia and the appearance of "time disappearing" are strong indicators of trance.
Hypnotherapy is a natural and safe way to help overcome difficulties that we all face at some time in our lives.
Is it effective therapy?
Therapy is no longer a painful, extended dig into one's past. Knowing the origin of a problem rarely cures it as difficulties can often “evolve” over time. The test of effective therapy is whether you actually feel better and can stay better.
Solution-focused techniques will, typically, impact on a person's difficulties early on in therapy. These techniques focus on people’s competences rather than deficits, their strengths rather than their weaknesses and their possibilities rather than their limitations.
What happens during a session?
A session, which usually lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, will involve a discussion about your challenge and will usually be followed by a period of relaxation or trance.
You will be in total control at all times and will not lose awareness. Nothing is done against your own will and every client I have seen in my practice has enjoyed the experience.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people only need one to five sessions before they notice the positive changes, but it depends on each individual's needs.
I aim to relieve problems as quickly and effectively as possible and it can often surprise people who may have spent their whole lives in fear of spiders or dentists to find that this no longer bothers them after only one session.
